I am so very fortunate to teach at a small, rural Montana school. We have 14 amazing students in 1st through 5th grades. Because we are small, we have unique opportunities such as being able to cook with our students.
I want to help prepare our kids for life by getting them cooking in our kitchen.
While we have many supplies like measuring cups and spoons, baking sheets, and spatulas, what we don't have is a mixer. This mixer would allow our kids to learn to make many healthy and delicious foods.
This mixer would benefit not only this year's students but all students for the forseeable future. I envision a school event every year where kids prepare a meal from start to finish--planning, table setting, choosing recipes, shopping, prepping, cooking, plating, serving, and cleaning up--for their families.
Through cooking, students will learn more skills. They'll learn fractions, measurement, budgeting, how to read nutrition labels, nutrition, health...and so much more!
