Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The majority of the students in my classroom are English Language Learners. They come from Central America, South America and China. Most students come from a low income family with parents that do not speak the English language. Even though some students may struggle in the classroom with the academic language, they love coming to school.
Creating a fun and safe environment is the key to success.
Students thrive and learn better when they are feeling safe and comfortable in the classroom. They take more risks, raise their hand, and are better learners. Once the students are engaged, they become active learners.
My Project
Not all learners are the same. Some sit still but some students need to move around while they are learning. Some students can sit in their seats and do their independent work, while others need to sit in separate locations to focus better.
By having comfortable pillows, and wobble chairs in our classroom, my students can choose a different location and sit on the pillow or chair with comfort.
I, as a teacher also cannot sit still when I am learning, I need to move around, therefore, I do understand my students need to move around while reading or writing. Flexible seats will allow my students to wiggle and wobble in order for them to focus better.
