This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My group of 29 fifth graders comes from a Title 1 district which means they are served free breakfast and lunch. These students have been remotely learning since the third week of March. We were blindsided when this pandemic hit and scrambling to come up with a plan for our remote learning. We sent home packets that last day knowing that we would be learning remotely for an undetermined amount of time. To meet the social-emotional needs of my students, I contact them a couple of times a week to check in with them.
Despite the remote learning challenges my students continue to be eager learners.
The majority of my students read below grade level and have been missing the classroom favorite of read-aloud time.
My Project
During the regular school year, read-aloud time was one of our most favorite times of the day. During our read-aloud time, I exposed my students to quality literature. This was the part of the day when students listened to quality literature fluently read by me and just listened to a good book for pure enjoyment.
I would like to get a copy of our read-aloud that we began before our learning was interrupted into the hands of my students.
Before our regular learning stopped abruptly, we were in the middle of the book titled, The Seventh Most Important Thing by Shelley Pearsall. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, my students will not have access to quality reading over the summer.
I know my students would love a copy of this book and what better time to give them a sense of closure in some aspect of learning. Please help me make this happen.
