My Project
I work in a Title I school where the majority of our students are homeless or in poverty. I want to create a safe loving environment for my students. First, we need basic supplies to thrive: we need a pencil sharpener and pencils in order to be successful, as well as scissors to keep our creativity flowing.
We are in the process of piloting a new reading program online to help students become fluent readers.
In order to make this program successful we need headphones for all students to be able to use this program.
Our school does a program called PBIS which has helped tremendously with reducing negative behaviors. Students have certain expectations and rules to follow and if they are successful in doing them they get points. For example, students have to be respectful and safe. With those points, students can shop at my store and earn prizes. Our treasure box of prize items is getting low. The following items will go into our treasure box: Hot Wheels, stickers, and bookmarks.
In another area of my room, I want to be able to create flexible seating for my students to be able to still learn by being comfortable having the donut seats will help them be able to do this, as well as using the clipboards students will be able to freely move around the room to do work. We could even work outside if we had the clipboards.
Most importantly a lot of my students' only meals are at school. I want to be able to give them snacks when they are hungry. A hungry belly does not equal a successful learning environment.
Lastly, due to weather conditions sometimes I want to add more indoor recess activities for students. That is why I am asking for an amber dig kit.
