Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This year my kindergarten students came to school virtually every day with a smile on their faces and genuine excitement for the day ahead. Many came tired; a home or even a bed of their own is a luxury several students don't have. Some are hungry because they are not at school to enjoy the breakfast provided by the school. Others come knowing little or no English but communicate beautifully through their smiles and kind hearts.

The families of my students have entrusted me with the education and safety of their children, and I take this honor extremely seriously.

Daily, I strive to instill a love of learning in my students and believe the best way to do so is to provide lessons and activities that allow them to become active learners.

My Project

I have used Let's Find Out from Scholastic Books for the past four years to bring science, social studies, and social-emotional skills alive for my kindergarten students. The weekly magazine includes an introductory video on the topic at large as well as a skills-based game, suggested extended activities, and a dance break video where students get up and move. We will use Let's Find Out remotely during our small group instruction. If our district is allowed to return to in-person instruction the students will read and take home the paper magazine each week.

Let's Find Out is available in English and in Spanish allowing my English Learners to enjoy these digital materials with their family in their home language.

My students are unable to pay for this additional resource and our PTO has generously paid for our subscription in the past. This year is different though, and without the fundraisers from Spring 2020 and Spring 2021 our PTO does not have the money necessary to pay for this subscription. Please help out my students with a donation to this project.
