Let's Fill Our Weekend Food Bags

My students need food to take home in their weekend food bags.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students attend a PreK-5 school in a rural part of town. The majority of the population is Hispanic and Native American, so most of my students are English Language Learners. The entire student population is provided federally funded free breakfast and lunch. Students are also provided with uniforms, school supplies, and food bags for the weekend. They are extremely bright, but because they lack supplies or funding, my students do not always get the same opportunities as students in other districts. My students are eager to learn. Our school is an active part of the community, creating a family environment within our halls, as seen through our active parent volunteers.

My Project

Have you ever tried to read a book or take a test hungry? Our minds focus on how hungry we are, which is distracting for learners. Students struggle to achieve academically because they are hungry. All students in my school receive federally funded breakfast and lunch. We also provide weekend food bags to students, but we are running low on supplies. These food bags go home every Friday to one student in need from every class. With more donations, we hope be able to provide food bags to more than one kid per class. We want to reach more kids with the weekend food bags, and your donations can help us.
