My Project
I am a math teacher at a low income high school in rural Utah. We are a Title One school with several ESL and Sped students. Currently, one-fourth of our population has an IEP, one-fourth are ELL learners with several immigrating to the states within the last year. My students come with various skills, abilities and backgrounds. I especially try to focus on my students stuck in the mindset of, "I am bad at math", and try to change this to, "I am still learning how to do math". Many of these students are not on grade level with problem solving and logical thinking skills. This disadvantage can make high school and math class feel impossible.
I can't wait to engage them in new, hands-on ways!
The various treats will allow students to be instantly rewarded for their hard work, as well as give them the extra energy that they need in order to keep their minds sharp and ready for problem solving.
Each of these items has been carefully selected in order to find new ways to engage, activate and enhance my students' learning experience of the beautiful world of mathematics.
