Help me give my students STEM books and hands on materials to encourage them to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Back in mid March, we thought that we'd see each other in two weeks, it turns out we wouldn't see each other until weeks later via devices mostly borrowed from school. Students at our school miss their friends, school, and their teachers! We transitioned to meeting weekly on Zoom and trying to learn how to use numerous applications to learn. Some students have not been able to log on, so for now they're happy to talk to their teachers on the telephone or communicate via text. A few days ago LAUSD announced that we will continue school in the fall via distance learning.
My Project
I will use these books, hands on materials and the IF/THEN Collection to encourage all of my students to become future Scientists, Engineers, and Mathematicians. I will use videos from the IF/THEN Collections to inspire then by observing female role model who are in the STEM fields.
I will make sure that I select videos from the IF/THEN Collection of women from diverse backgrounds to show my students that they can pursue careers in the sciences if that is their dream.
In addition, I will show them videos of scientists of latino descent. I will also introduce them to coding.
