My Project

I am a school-based Occupational Therapist, and I work with several students in various self-contained classrooms who struggle to overcome physical limitations including decreased standing/ sitting balance, reduced endurance/ stamina, and limited proximal stability/ distal control. As an OT, I can attest that students today fatigue more quickly in the classroom, and posture is becoming more and more of a concern in both general education and special education classroom settings.

The half dome balance ball and floor scooter board in this project would be utilized to specifically address the above areas of need while also providing sensory input to help improve sustained attention.

Activities that activate proprioceptors (receptors in joints and muscles) also aid in improving overall body awareness (which, in turn, can help to reduce the risk of falls, improve social skills with peers, etc).
