My Students
As an International Baccalaureate World School, we want students to be inquirers, and be curious about the world around them, and work collaboratively. We are an urban school with socio-economic and cultural diversity. Our students and teachers are a diverse group, each bringing unique strengths to our educational program. This year I have Creole, Spanish, and English speakers in my classroom. These students need to be able to work and communicate with each other to be successful and feel a part of our community. In a COVID learning environment, now more than ever, our students also need the flexibility of seating options; as the time has been set backward in the education world, requiring students to sit in rows and desks facing forward with desk shields, which is the opposite of what a conducive learning environment needs. My philosophy as an educator is to develop lifelong learners and globally-minded citizens by fostering the academic, creative, and social skills needed to achieve excellence and competence in a multicultural world.
My Project
Wobble stools will be a great accommodation for students who just need to move a little! After being at home for 7 months, being asked to sit for hours in desks in rows is a lot to ask and a huge adjustment really for any human. I want to meet my students halfway, and be empathetic to their needs to move while they work without being disruptive to others in class. In order to build an equitable learning environment, students need educators to meet them where they are, and give them the resources they need to be successful!
