My students need "Math Strategies" and "Daily Math" practice journals to help them master Common Core standards and prepare for state testing.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are bright, energetic, inner-city children that deserve the same educational opportunities as students in suburban districts that surround Philadelphia, experience.
Unfortunately, due to the unbalanced funding formula used by our state, our district continues to struggle to provide the bare necessities to the children at greatest risk.
Our children live in an impoverished, crime-ridden neighborhood, known throughout Philadelphia, for drug activity and violence. Our rather large K-4 school has become the center of our children's neighborhood. A place where the children are safe, loved, and most importantly educated. With the budget crisis we face, our students have been subjected to larger classroom size, cuts in personnel, including the school librarian, and essential support materials in every core subject.
My Project
The Common Core and state testing requires students not only to solve problems but also to provide detailed explanations on the strategies used in the process. I believe that by incorporating the Daily Math Practice Journals I will be able to provide my students with ample opportunities to practice the skills needed for success on state testing while developing lifelong problem solving skills. In addition, the Math Strategies Practice Journals will allow my students to engage in meaningful dialogue with other students aiding in the development of collaborative problem solving skills by sharing the varying strategies used to complete the practice exercises.
If this project is funded it will help my students develop a deeper understanding of mathematical operations thereby fostering critical problem solving skills and the ability to explain the rationale used to problem solve.
