Help me give my students chromebooks to improve typing skills, practice math facts, create finished writing projects, etc. We also use them to assist in open ended research projects, passion projects and character/social emotional learning lessons.
My students are incredibly inquisitive, out of the box thinkers. The majority of them are identified as gifted in one or more areas. Most of them have been in class together for 4-5 years already, which builds a type of familial community. We don't have busses, so our families get to see each other almost daily. Gifted students can feel out of place in a traditional classroom where their bigger than life ideas and emotions can seem out of place or odd. We are working to create an environment that fosters this love of discovery, imagination, and innovation through project based learning.
My Project
Chromebooks are used daily by students to help in almost all areas of learning. While I encourage most of the day to be offline, computers do allow my gifted students the opportunity to restructure their thinking/hypothesis through research not available within our classroom otherwise. We do problem based learning service projects throughout the year, that without research, are just not possible. Students will also pop on for 5 minute multiplication practice, or use it to login to our Scholastic virtual library of books. We also try to type our finished writing each week.
