My students need Paint by Stickers books, drawing books, and coloring books to de-stress after the state tests, these resources will allow them to be creative and have fun.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are middle schoolers at a Title l school in New York. My students come from diverse backgrounds and many from tough homes.
They are overcoming social and emotional barriers each day to receive an education.
My students are active and enthusiastic. They are motivated and eager to do well. They want to learn and are constantly seeking opportunities to take ownership of their learning.
Our school is in a high needs, high poverty area in which most children are on free or reduced-price breakfast and lunch programs. Despite these challenges, our students work hard, stay after school, participate in after-school clubs and activities, and are always striving to be and do better for themselves and for others.
My Project
As we ramp up to take the English language arts exam, and the math state exam, my 6th grade students are feeling the pressure to do well. They are already anxious about so many things in their lives, and these tests exacerbates their anxiety.
These resources will allow them to de-stress and tune into their creativity.
After the test, students are forced to sit quietly while their classmates finish the test. By allowing my students access to Paint by Stickers books, drawing books, and coloring books, they will be allowed to escape the pressures of just having taken a test and decompress with a creative flair.
