This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My class of 27 bilingual first graders are enthusiastic readers! This year is a critical point to get them from learning how to read, to reading so that they can learn information in the upper grades. That is why it is crucial to have texts in both English and Spanish to read together during our guided reading block. Thus, I would appreciate receiving funding for these leveled readers, varying from levels C to G.
In a dual language classroom, the balance of languages should be equal; however, I have a larger variety of English guided reading books, compared to the Spanish readers.
WIth this variety of leveled texts, I will be able to help students improve their reading abilities, based specifically on their level. While the majority of my students have improved with the use of emergent readers, they are now ready to read higher, grade-level texts, such as level E, F, and G. These texts will be beneficial to their reading development.
