My Students
I work in an urban district that qualifies for both free breakfast and free lunch programs. The school we work in has a large percentage of children that speak English as a second language. We have children that are from Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Cape Verde and Haiti. The children, on top of speaking English as a second language, also have a variety of disabilities that affect their learning. Students often are diagnosed with Autism, Developmental Delays, Communication Disorders, and Medical Issues.
These wonderful children come to my specialized class in order to work on individual goals that are created on their Individual Education Plans.
They often travel across the city in order to attend this specialized classroom. The children often have limited opportunity to practice skills at home due to materials that are needed.
My Project
The students will use the markers and erasers in various center activities. The laminating sheets will be used to laminate the various activities to use over and over again without having to photocopy activities. Throughout the day the students participate in independent and center work where they review previously learned activities by playing various games. This is a form of differentiation of instruction using a variety of activities for students to gather a deeper understanding of concepts. The children love using the dry erase markers. It is easy to correct work by erasing using a dry erase marker, rather than a pencil!
