Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a school-wide (100%) Free and Reduced Lunch Title I and low performing school (Program Improvement School). Eighty percent of my students are English Language Learners. Our community is culturally diverse and socioeconomically low. Because most of our parents do not speak English and work many part-time jobs, it's hard for parents to get involved in their children's learning. Many of my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.

School, for many of my students, is their safe haven! We are a family.

My Project

My students need a place to feel confident. I teach in a bungalow with 30 loud 5th graders. I don't have the space to designate as the "quiet area". So when my students make videos, there are always loud background noises in their videos. Also, my students love making videos except when they have to record in front of their peers. Using a Pop-Up Pod will give them the environment they need to feel secure and confident.

Using Pop-Up Pods and microphones will engage and empower every voice in my classroom.

These items will provide a perfect environment for my students so they can be seen, be creative and heard in their videos
