How often do you use technology to answer your daily inquires? If you are like me, you have discovered the world of information that technology has given. I would like my students to have this discovery for themselves, while also encouraging them to read!
This school year, I have had the pleasure of working with and teaching 25 very eager second-grade students.
Most of the students had never been a part of a class with more than 12 students. Due to cuts in the district budget, all of the students were put together in my classroom and I couldn't imagine not being the teacher of a single one of them! We live in a rural area where most families enjoy living simple lives. Slowly, some of my students are learning about technology. We currently have two classroom computers which my 25 students and I share. Unfortunately, each student uses a computer once every week or two. This Nook will open my students to another opportunity to use technology!
My Project
I am requesting a Nook Color with AC and USB adapter. This is a 7-inch devise that can hold hundreds of books, magazines and/ or newspapers. The Nook offers one million FREE books ready for download, as well as another one million books that may be purchased for less than the hardback or paperback price. In addition, the “LendMe” application allows teachers and friends to lend and borrow books electronically. But wait there’s more! Students can also interact with the words or have the story read aloud to them. Wow! Think about the possibilities!
Television and video games are slowly taking over our children’s free time.
Some of my students just LOVE to read, while others have to be compelled. Let’s make reading more interactive and rebuild our students’ interest in finding a good book!
