This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My E.T.K. students are ready to count! E.T.K. is the essential grade before kindergarten and is a hands-on learning environment. They need physical and tactile experiences to engage in learning.

Our school is located in mid-city Los Angeles near downtown with many hard-working families.

We are a title one, low-income school. Many of our families live in multi-family dwellings to make ends meet. Many kids attend school from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. allowing their parents to work the long hours needed to survive.

I would like to give my students the needed skills to start their lifelong goal of learning. It is research-based and proven young children need physical objects to help with counting skills. I would like to purchase counters to aid in their ability to learn to count. The counters will allow the students to get a grasp on counting.

My Project

My young students are just starting their journey in academia. As young learners, they need concrete hands-on experiences.

It is proven young learners need manipulatives to develop concrete math skills.

The ability to touch an object versus seeing it written is the key to success in young children

I will accomplish this skill by allowing my students to use the counters while teaching them how to count. They will be allowed

to use the manipulatives as counters. I will ask them to show a certain amount and they will show the amount with the counters. The manipulatives will make them feel successful and ready for kindergarten.
