My Students

"For the things we have to learn before we can do them, we learn by DOING them." [Aristotle] Help us educate our Kindergarten kids about important life skills by making healthy food in our classroom! They want to become more independent and helpful in accomplishing everyday tasks. Cooking = Fun!

As a successful early childhood school, we provide a nurturing, yet rigorous community of learning.

Over 90% of our Grade 3 students performed at Level 3 or above on the New York State English Language Arts and Math Assessments, reflecting continued strong performance even against higher testing standards. We are a Title I, NYC Public School with nearly 60% of students qualify for free/reduced lunch. Our commitment to differentiated instruction supports students of all ability levels in every classroom by integrating: ● English Language Learners (ELL students) ● ● English as a Second Language (ESL students) ● ● Students with Special Needs ● ● General Education students ● Our community is quite international with almost 70% of our students coming from homes where English is spoken as a second language. One-fifth of our students receive extra support for learning English. We also provide communication materials to parents in 4 home languages (English, Chinese, Spanish, Korean).

My Project

Cooking in our classroom is important because our Students will learn to eat healthy and have fun. When following a recipe, Students will practice: following directions, measuring, counting and fine motor skills. These classroom cooking experiences will advance their learning in several ways: 1) unique, immersive, hands-on opportunities in our classroom, 2) critical early childhood education about nutritional choices, which our students may then teach to their own families, 3) important life skill experiences: working together to prepare recipes at our school will require teamwork, precision and patience. Students will feel such a tremendous sense of pride and accomplishment as they enjoy sharing the tasty, nutritious foods that they made together! We are requesting 10 COOKING resources to safely store, prepare and cook our food: Compact Refrigerator, Mid-size Microwave, Oven Mitts, Storage Boxes to keep supplies organized, Power Surge Strips and Batteries.

Collaborative projects like this are valuable for team-building and fostering a more integrated, learning community for our Kindergarten students.

They will gain confidence in their own ability to contribute and create healthy recipes in our classroom "kitchen". With your support and the generous efforts of Feed USA, we will educate our Kindergarten Students about healthy eating. These lessons can have a positive impact for the rest of their lives. Let's learn why and how to cut the junk food!
