Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our morning begins when my first graders join our Zoom class to get ready for another great learning day. Though we've never met in person altogether, it is the brightest moment of the day.
My school is considered an inner-city school.
Most of our students are identified as economically disadvantaged. All of our students participate in the National Free Lunch Program. My class consists of 24 first grade students. They are eager learners and try their best to achieve their dream. As their teacher, I want to give them the tools to enrich their learning experience.
My Project
My students need essential coloring tools to have at home. Since my students are first graders, they express their thinking through not only writing but also drawing and coloring.
I have learned that coloring is a great way to encourage reluctant artists to draw and create more.
At school, students were provided the basic coloring tools such as paints and crayons. However, now that students are doing remote learning, many students do not have them at home. Very often, I hear them saying that they could not color the pictures because coloring tools were not available at home. I would like my students to have a set of watercolor pencils at home. My students will use them for drawing, coloring, and/or painting at home. I believe all students should have the necessary tools to practice their drawing and coloring all the time.
