This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I teach physical education and health in a Title I school in Southwest Philadelphia. Our school struggles daily. All of my students are poverty stricken, receive free lunch, and struggle academically. Because of budget constraints, we receive no supplies, no money towards our classroom, etc. Some of the students at my school are homeless, some of the students can't afford shoes; and the teachers, including myself, buy these students these things. Our gym has no supplies or games to play with the students.
The iPad will allow the students to take the role of a classroom leader by having physical fitness test scores recorded and the ablility to take pictures and have access to music for MANY activities.
The beanbag chairs and the wireless headphones will allow a "chill" area for those students that may not be physically participating due to an excuse or medical reason.
However, this will allow those students to still remain and feel a part of the class.
For example. providing a student leader within the class on various occasions, allows the class to interact in a positive way.
