My students need comprehension sets, Hot Dots pens and cards, and fluency cards to help create self-motivated/self-directed centers and letting me work with small groups to create deeper understanding.

My Students
I have an amazing group of students that hungers for knowledge. Every day we face the challenges of having such a diverse group of learners. The have different backgrounds and come with different preset knowledge. This creates a learning environment with many opinions which enrich our learning.
In our classroom we have 30 students who live in a low income area.
There are two students who are advanced learners, and seven students who are struggling in reading. There is one student who is in a wheel chair. Eleven of my students are English language learners. These differences create a diverse group of students with different needs and different learning abilities. These differences make the use of small group centers critical. Our classroom uses self-motivated centers with a rotation where the student groups meet with the teacher to learn a concept on a deeper level.
My Project
The reading comprehension set, the inference set, and the fluency set will help students build a better understanding of these concepts while working in small groups with their peers. The hot dots are a great way to review synonyms, antonyms, prefixes, and suffixes. The hot dots will also increase their vocabulary banks. Increasing vocabulary makes better readers. These rotation centers will increase learning and it also allows me time to work with all my students in smaller groups.
I plan to use these tools in 5 rotations centers to create a more active and self-motivated classroom.
This project will create a learning environment where the students will be able to better understand the complex content their are required to learn. My hope is that by using these tools in small groups with only one center teacher geared and the other centers student gear the students will be able to take more ownership in their learning.
