My students need Legos to help them learn through fun and exciting play. Using tools that they can manipulate and manage will engage them and learning.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is located the second smallest city in Los Angeles County. Our elementary school is 552 students strong. We have 1 percent African American, and 98 percent Latinos. We have a 90 percent socioeconomically disadvantaged population and 4 percent foster youth. 100% of our students get free lunch.
Despite the many challenges they face, my students arrive every morning full of life, ready to learn, and excited to get started on our day.
I do my best to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
My Project
LEGOs are perfect tools for challenging students to learn concepts across the curriculum that they can see and demonstrate in a visually compelling way. Bring LEGO Bricks into my lesson, will immediately add an element of fun, without losing any learning benefits. My students will come away from lessons with a deeper understanding of the many learning concepts.
Many students are visual and kinesthetic learners and will have an easier time grasping learning concepts.
In math, LEGO Bricks will help me in teaching students about counting and measuring as well as visualize addition and subtraction problems. In writing, we will Stick letters to each LEGO so students can create words from them. We will attach words to each LEGO so students can create sentences.
We will use these LEGO Bricks to build and create. I want to be able to build resources that will allow our students to build confidence, to ask questions, define problems and design their own solutions.
