Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Imagine 4-year-old children being isolated from their peers during COVID and then being sent to school for the very first time. For most of the children, this is their first experience being away from home and being separated from their families for most of the day. Being away from home is difficult for most students but compounded with the pandemic, it can be a traumatic experience for the children. This transition can be difficult for many of them as they struggle to make sense of their world while introducing a new routine of school to their life. This difficult transition is also affected by their already existing life circumstances.

Our school is composed of 100% free breakfast and lunch.

Many of our students are economically and linguistically disadvantaged which makes their lives chaotic and stressful. With the right help, you can help make them feel as if their classroom is their home away from home and inspire a life-long love for learning.

My Project

My students will use these materials in order to work together to learn skills of collaboration, rebuilding, and exploration. These skills are extremely important in their world as they are continuing to rebuild the world around them after COVID-19 where they have been forced to be isolated from their peers due to safety concerns.

My students will be able to work together as they build structures and use doll figures to express their ideas, concerns and anxieties brought about by this pandemic.

My students have thrived as they communicate, collaborate, and create in the block center. They use blocks to represent themselves and the world around them but would benefit from the additional blocks to build structures from around the world
