Let's Build a Garden!

My students need a garden bed and gardening tools to build a school garden. They also need a compost bin in order to learn about composting their waste at school.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. W.'s classroom raised $683

This project is fully funded

My Students

The students at my school come from a diverse community. Our goal as a community and staff is to immerse students in the different cultures that our students come from. We have a large ELL population and we know it is important that they learn English, but also keep their home language strong, too.

The 1st grade students are hardworking, respectful and willing to try difficult tasks in order to achieve a set goal.

Our school serves students K-5 and provides a well rounded education. All the teachers strive to do what they can and will take extra steps to help their students. About 37% of the students are on free or reduced lunch.

My Project

This kid inspired project came to them when we started our unit on plants. Students are learning about life cycle of a seed within their unit and they are growing their own small plants. Students talked about how it would be fun to be able to plant vegetables and be able to have a classroom veggie party!

It all starts with composting!

I have requested a compost bin, worms and compost starter in order to start our compost bin at school. Students will learn about what they can compost and be able to watch how organic materials break down.

Once we have good soil, we can build our garden bed with the requested tool kits and gloves and start our garden! We will first go out and build the bed together and then fill the garden bed with rich soil and worms! Once we have prepared our garden, we will start learning about the fruits and veggies we will be growing in our garden using the seeds and soil amendments.
