My students are ALL loving, caring, and hardworking. Our school is in an inner city district, and my students face many challenges inside and outside of school. Many of my students have experienced trauma in their lives, experiences I can't even imagine living through. I've noticed that more than ever students have trouble focusing. There are many contributing factors. Many are diagnosed with ADHD while others have anxiety and other emotional challenges that make it difficult to focus. There are also varying academic needs. Their reading and writing levels vary from kindergarten levels through third grade. My job is to ensure that my students become life long readers and writers and confident mathematicians.
They need to have a safe, comfortable, and motivating environment.
They need me to acknowledge their challenges and give them support and unconditional love every day. They need choices and variety in their learning environment because one size truly does not fit all.
My Project
My goal is to have seating options that benefit the variety of learners in my classroom. Moving away from the traditional desks and creating a classroom with choice and movement opportunities has been the best decision I have made for my students.
Students that choose to learn at a traditional desk need a bouncy band to release some extra energy.
The Go anywhere Chair will provide another comfortable option for students that can be moved to a desired area in the classroom, and the balance balls will provide yet another opportunity for students to release some energy while they work productively and focus on the task at hand!
