Let's Boogie! An Alternative to Whiteboards and Markers

My Project
The use of whiteboards is a daily activity in my classroom, especially in math. They empower students with a method of showing their thinking and allow me to check for understanding and see exactly what they are doing. However, dry erase markers simply do not last, especially in first grade. Caps are left off, drying them out, or they are simply misplaced. A large amount of our instruction time is spent on trying to find a marker that works. Students know if they can't find one, they need to get a pencil and paper, which gets even more chaotic. We also do not have a contained area to gather as a class. Students are distracted and less focused than they would be with a specific spot to sit. By having the Boogie Boards, students won't need to use precious time that can be spent learning looking for dried markers or broken pencils. A carpet will help students understand where they settle during lessons and focus on learning instead of where they should be sitting, decreasing transition times.
By donating to our project, you will not only aide first graders in focusing on learning and attention, but ultimately increase academic achievement .
With these materials students will be able to focus on more on academic learning and less on gathering materials that possibly don't work. Students will also be able to gather quickly and increase the time they have to learn.
