Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are an elementary school located in the Bronx. Our school is a Title I school with 98% free and reduced lunch population. Most of our students are English language learners who have immigrated to the US in hopes of a better education.
Our students love engaging in fun activities that will help spark creativity.
They are fearless when it comes to technology and, as children of the 21st-century, they need to be prepared to use a variety of tools to engage their world.
My Project
Bee-Bots can make rigorous learning feel like play. These materials will provide my students with hands-on learning experiences as they learn English. My students will use coding skills to program the Bee-Bots to move on the mat. On the mat I can place sight words, letters, pictures, words, sentences, and other literacy concepts. They will need to use critical thinking and visualizing skills to program the Bee-Bot to move. The Bee-Bot will aid my students in learning and reinforcing literacy and STEM concepts that align to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). This Bee-Bot will aid ALL of my students in reaching grade level expectations and English proficiency.
These resources will provide my students with opportunities to foster their curiosity, creativity, and innovation.
An added benefit is that my students will be completely engaged while using these materials and that will lead to an even deeper understanding of the standards.
