My Project
Working with an eager group of second graders is what makes me want to improve and provide the best learning environment for my students. I am fortunate to teach a group of enthusiastic, curious, and compassionate second graders in a culturally diverse public school in the Bay Area. Our school is one of the oldest and most beautiful buildings within our district, but it has its faults because the classrooms are not designed for students in the 21st century.
The classrooms are smaller than remodeled classrooms, and having these mini desks would allow the students to have some flexibility in where they sit instead of sitting in their small, cramped classroom desks.
We will be able to work in small groups using these desks instead of clipboards which can be bad for the students' backs when they are working on the rug. They will be able to sit and work on a flat hard surface. Students will also have an opportunity to use magnet money and base tens to practice some fundamental math concepts. Hands-on practice and flexible seating are important to the academic growth of these students.
