My Students

Biotechnology is the wave of the future and all students should have access to learning these techniques.

My wonderful students are juniors and seniors studying Biotechnology at a high school in Northern California.

I have many students with special needs that thrive in this class because it is very tactile and hands-on. All of my students are learning lab skills that could start them on a career to becoming a lab technician or more as a scientist.

My Project

The materials I am requesting will put high-tech equipment into the hands of my students so they can do real labs using equipment that they will see in the high-tech labs of the future. The miniPCR thermal cycler will allow the students to take small samples of DNA and amplify them into large amounts. The DNA bits can then be used to solve mysteries about diseases, parentage, and bacteria for example. In order to transfer the small amounts of material, there is also a need for a class set of micropipettes. The PCR Master Mix is used as the reagent to run the PCR activities.

All of these materials put the tools of biotech directly in the hands of all my students and help to prepare them for the future.

Biotechnology techniques are changing the way we think about science and the world around us. By supporting this project, you are giving all students access to hands-on, real-world technology to engage them in science and prepare them for the careers of the future.
