This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Help my students make a difference by acknowledging and respecting other cultures in their community.
The population in my classroom is a low-income bilingual students with special needs.
My students need help understanding other cultures and most of all their own. They enjoy reading and taking neighborhood walks. This is a bilingual school located in the Bronx, New York.
My Project
With these materials, my students will be able to become aware of other people' s ideas, beliefs and traditions. They will also become more knowledgeable and sensitive towards different topics.
During literacy and social studies, the students will be able to read these books and design a brochure where they inform their classmates and teachers about their facts and opinions on their specific culture. The students will use the cam-recorder when taking a neighborhood walk so they can record their community and people while they conduct a survey.
As an educator, my vision is that my students acknowledge their culture of origin and others.
I strongly believe that by the completion of this unit students will become very compassionate and proud about themselves.
