My Students

I get to see my Kindergarten through 3rd graders twice a week for 30 minutes and my 4th and 5th graders once a week for 60 minutes. I am fortunate to teach in a school where music is valued by my principal and staff, as well as by our community.

My students are budding musicians that love to play instruments!

They are eager learners, engaged, motivated, like to explore, enjoy moving around, and love to have fun in music. It is a joy to teach them!

My Project

My students love to play instruments! Everybody is engaged and creative. With the tubano, the additional bongos, the djembe, and the floor toms, we would have enough drums so that each student would be able to play some kind of drum at the same time. I would also like to introduce my students to drums from different cultures, like the darbuka from the Middle East.

A drum circle fosters collaboration, creativity, improvisation, and acceptance - important attributes in today's world.

My students would benefit greatly from opportunities where they can just simply be themselves, without being judged, in a safe environment. They are assessed many times during a school day, even during music class. I would love for them to let go of the stress and pressure, and just dive into making music together with their friends. Taking turns, listening, being spontaneous - those are just a few things my students can gain from a drum circle experience.
