This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have a wonderful group of first graders who are working on sharing their ideas and strategies with each other as they learn.

Our classroom and school population includes students who are learning English, living in poverty, and trying their best every day without excuses.

My Project

The materials provided for by this grant will enable my students to work on their math and literacy skills. They will use the whiteboards and markers to display what they know by showing how they solve math problems. They will be writing their own math story problems for others to solve. They will also use the whiteboards to write and illustrate short stories. The boards will be used to share their ideas with other students in the room while working on understanding concepts, practicing social skills, and speaking in complete sentences.

My students are currently using inexpensive replacements for whiteboards and erasers.

They have not complained but would be overjoyed to be able to better display their work and ideas. The fine point markers will allow them to write neater so others better understand what they have written. My students have great ideas and I want them to know I value them by providing the right tools. Thank you for helping me do this for them.
