This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach US History to a fantastic group of highly inquisitive 8th graders at a very academically demanding school in South Florida.
Over the years I have experimented with a variety of lesson structures and I have discovered that my students are very good at teaching each other. I encourage students to share the results of their work and am delighted with the constructive discussions that take place in class. Students are much more interested in the maps their fellow classmates create than the maps in the textbook. The only issue is that student work is usually on a small sheet of paper which makes it very difficult to show the entire class.
With the generous donation of a document camera student work could be quickly and easily projected on the board and shared with the class. Instead of students squinting to make out indistinguishable lines on a small piece of paper, the student work being discussed would be shown in full detail on the board.
I strongly believe that this opportunity for students to share their creations will motivate them to work harder and learn much more from these activities. The sharing of student work is a key benefit of this camera and it would also allow us to do a pretty cool lesson analyzing US currency.
