This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students attend a Title I school which means they come from a low income household. In fact, they live in one of the poorest zip codes in NYC. Many live in shelters and are in foster care. They have experienced trauma and an astronomical amount of stress, yet despite this, they are full of joy and happiness and are eager to learn.
My 25 students range in age from 3 to 14 years old, with various learning disorders.
I am their SLP and provide their speech and language therapy. My students are diagnosed with an array of speech and language disorders. I have tried my best to support my students with the resources I can afford, but one person can only do so much.
You really can help make a difference! When new materials arrive, the children become so excited and motivated. You can make such a difference for these kids. A gift like this one is one that truly keeps on giving from month to month and from year to year. When we use these materials you and your generosity will be remembered.
My Project
Hi everyone! This fall many of my students will be coming back into the building for the first time, since March 2020! It has been very difficult to conduct speech therapy remotely as many students had a lack of resources such as computers, ipads internet connection to even paper and books. The materials I am requesting for will enable my students to become better readers and writers, however, my students have disabilities that make language and learning very difficult and they need to start at the foundation level.
Many of my students are at least two grades below academically where they should be, and would benefit from these resources.
My students range in ages from 3-14 and have a varying degree of ability. The resources I am requesting would develop phonological awareness, solidify phonics skills, grammar, comprehension, vocabulary and various stages of writing process. It would mean so much to me if you could check out this project and add whatever you could to help the education of these very special children.
