My Project
First graders are always beaming with energy and the eagerness to learn. They want to absorb anything they can like sponges. Throughout their day they are constantly moving around the classroom and learning in different spots. Having flexible seating in these spots helps them focus more on their learning.
Research has shown that flexible seating allows for choice, physical health, comfort, community, collaboration, communication, sensory input, fun, and a commitment to the seating that we are requesting allows for more choices.
As we know, not all children learn the same way. By allowing them to choose the type of seating they have, I am supporting the specific way they learn. Whether it involves getting some movement in while listening to a story, sitting on the rug while doing independent work, or sitting at a teacher table working with the teacher, all ways support each child differently.
Students are able to figure out what works for them and what helps their learning progress. Developing a community of learners helps all students grow in their own ways and to work together to problem solve.
