My classroom has 17 fluorescent lights. Fluorescent lights in classrooms can negatively impact student behavior by contributing to distractions, off-task behaviors like daydreaming, increased hyperactivity, and difficulty concentrating due to the harsh light, flicker, and lack of natural color spectrum, potentially leading to poorer learning outcomes and increased restlessness among students.
Research suggests that students perform better in environments with softer, more natural lighting.
Our classroom goal is to have softer light, which can reduce eye strain, promote alertness, improve focus, and create a more calming environment, which can lead to better concentration and overall engagement in our learning activities.
