My Students

Help my students succeed! In a world driven by technology, I am fortunate enough to work in a classroom equipped with state of the art equipment. I have a Smartboard that helps me facilitate an interactive classroom. Unfortunately, there is no money in the city's budget to replace projector bulbs.

I have a classroom of 23, energetic, eager learners in a very low-income, urban district.

My students are 95% African-American, or Latino, and 100% of them receive free breakfast and lunch. The majority of my students' only interaction with computers, Internet, and other supporting technology is in the classroom. Over my tenure as a teacher, I have observed that students learn best when they are highly engaged and have visual support.

My Project

Our school was part of a city-wide re-construction project, and is only 5 years into it. The administration at the time, installed brand new technology in all the classrooms, but failed to budget for the replacement of light bulbs down the road. As a result, the students, as well as the teachers, have grown accustomed to using the Smartboards. Recently, the projector bulb in the Smartboard in our classroom has blown and now there is no money to replace it. Being unable to use our Smartboard has been a great disadvantage for my students and myself. We've lost the ability to use technological tools such as interactive science labs, 3-dimensional math manipulatives, live streaming, supporting and educational videos (Discovery United Streaming), just to name a few.

In closing, our administration has invested in new and innovative, science, reading, and math curriculums which have Smartboard technology heavily infused into each of them.

I am thoroughly excited for my students to have these programs at their fingertips, however, I am only able to give my students 50% of the program. Please help us by donating to my project so that we can once again use our Smartboard along with our new curriculum. My students DESERVE 100%. Help us get there!
