This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"Look what I made!" These were the words a student used when they finished their project and proudly showed it off during our art show in May. As a teacher, witnessing the joy a child gets from displaying and talking about their creations is a great feeling and very rewarding. Our school serves students in grades Pre K-5 and provides rigorous academics, amazing teachers and a safe learning environment.
The Title 1, Pre-kindergarten through 5 school is located in a high-risk, high-poverty neighborhood in the Northeast section of the Bronx.
The students love to create art using a variety of materials, medias and get especially excited when they get to tie it into technology and science.
My Project
The materials requested for this art project will introduce our students to STEAM learning and prepare them for STEM/STEAM related jobs. My students will use the watercolor paper, paints, markers and pastels to create a winter themed picture. Upon completion of their painting, students will use the copper strips and batteries to create a circuit board for the LED lights. The end result will be a winter themed painting that will light up. This project will tie in with students science unit on electricity and will be showcased during the winter music show.
This project will educate and prepare the next generation of the American, and global workforce.
By being able to gift them with items to make their work more realistic and special, they will continue to work hard and realize the importance of the arts in science, technology and math. A little appreciation goes a long way to students and my students are always excited to give back.
