While writing for and producing the school newspaper is the primary focus, students must create displays for the classroom as well. They want to be creative, but my markers are dried out and we only have brown construction paper left. They need new art materials to make work they're proud of!
My 60 journalism students range from 7th through 12th grade.
They are diverse in their academic achievement and ability - some are honors and AP students while others work with disabilities. They are a unique bunch of kids who are enthusiastic about writing and producing their student newspaper. Ours is a public school in a big, urban city. While many of our students are from low-income families, many succeed despite their challenges.
My Project
Students are responsible for creating displays in the classroom that reflect their learning. We're running out of art supplies that are necessary for them to create displays they are proud of. A fresh set of markers, construction paper, and stencils will give my students the materials they need to create visually appealing displays to illustrate their writing projects, rules of journalistic ethics, the history of journalism, and key figures in the field. From creating displays, they will not only make a windowless room more light and colorful, but they will continue to learn from the work they display.
Donations to this project will provide the basic materials needed for students to create attractive visual displays for the classroom.
Since I was able to order materials in bulk, not only will my current students be able to use them, but my future students will be able to use them as well! Thank you so much for giving my students the necessary materials to be able to create work they can be proud of!
