This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The district I work in is a low income/high poverty city and 100% of the students receive free breakfast and lunch. After teaching in my school for one year, I have a better idea of my students skills and where their passions can be found.
As an art teacher in a neighborhood school, my goal is to teach my students the elements and principles of art, how to use a variety of materials and how they can incorporate art into their daily lives.
My Project
My students love to paint! Tempera cakes will let me start teaching the younger students how to paint sooner and the smocks will help to cut back on the mess. With all the painting going on, we will need a drying rack that is easy to use and that can store lots of artwork. Because of my small budget, I have very little room to buy anything beyond paper, pencils and erasers. Although these supplies can do a lot, paint is an exciting and necessary medium for students to really expand on their art making abilities. Who doesn't want a little paint in their life?
