Let Them Make a Mark!

My students need creative supplies for taking notes in multiple subjects. The variety of colors helps students visually separate topics. The sticky notes are great for annotating shared novels which they cannot write on.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. SKAINES's classroom raised $384

My Students

I teach English Language Development and Newcomer English Language Arts (mixed grades) to very diverse groups of students. I also teach 6th grade general education classes, English Language Arts and Social Studies. My 6th-8th graders are intelligent and inquisitive students. Some of these students were born in this country, while others have only been here for a short time.

The Newcomers are recently emigrated from over ten different countries including: Palestine, Honduras, Brazil, El Salvador, Philippines, China, and Thailand.

These students are highly motivated to learn English to fit in and survive in their remarkable new environment. Students represent different parts of the world all coming together in one place with the same main goals: to increase their knowledge and become proficient in English.

The sixth grade students are attending school at an exciting time with new changes in curriculum. We are incorporating technology into each class meeting. These students are learning Language Arts and Social Studies in fresh and exciting ways while developing 21st Century skills.

My Project

Students are responsible for taking a variety of notes in multiple subjects. Students are also required to take notes, or annotate, while reading. However, they destroy class novels if they write notes in the margins. The best solution is to take notes on sticky notes which then can be transferred to a notebook for evidence in writing assignments.

Why make note taking boring and bland?

Notes are still an important way for students to learn. They practice career skills and meta-cognition when writing notes. A variety of colored ink allows for students to separate out specific topics and themes for easier study time.
