My Students

I teach 2nd- 5th graders with a variety of intellectual, social, and sensory impairments in my moderate/severe special education classroom. My students learn and work on their own individual goals. We work with each student to help them reach their individual goals, to be independent, responsible, and proud of the work they do.

I am so lucky to be the teacher of my students.

They are a loving, hard-working, and love to do their best. In the short time I have been their teacher, my students have pleasantly surprised me with how quickly they have learned routines, and with how much they have learned already. I am excited to see how much more my students improve throughout this school year.

Almost all of my students are considered Exceptional Military Families. These students tend to move around a lot, and may have parents who are away from home for extended periods of time, which bring even more challenges to students who already face the challenges of having special needs.

My students need lots of visuals and movement breaks to focus in class.

The students love to learn and participate in class. They also love to play and utilize interactive learning.

My Project

Having tools like wobble cushions and wobble chairs will help my students be able to move/wiggle that will not distract them away from learning, but help them focus in class. The tools will help them especially focus during school, when they are sitting at their desk areas. Right now I have a few wobble cushions, and I am borrowing a wobble chair from another teacher. My students need more tools that I am currently unable to provide for them.

Besides the focus benefits, adding a little wiggle, bounce, or wobble to everyday classroom seating can have: Improved posture and muscle tone – At the same time the student's frequent postural adjustments strengthen the core abdominal and trunk muscles.

Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are offered the tools to add a little wiggle, bounce, or wobble in their classroom seating. They sit better, are more engaged, and get more work completed than when they are just sitting at their desk in standard desk chairs.

My students are noticeably more engaged in their work and less disruptive and/or distracted when they are given a choice of seating tools.

The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options to make more effective learning choices. The wobble stools are adjustable and will allow students to sit at desk/higher tables but will still allow some movement. These will be extremely beneficial for some students that just need to get the wiggles out. They can also be used as an alternative chair if needed! The paint dabbers and laminating sheets will help students be able to have multi-modal learning, and a richer learning experience.
