Let Them Hear, Let Them Learn

Help me give my students better access. The listening stethoscope will allow us to check if hearing aids are working. The other items will help us address any problems with aids or other hearing assistive technology.

My Students

I serve the self-contained classes at our middle school as well as the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing students in the district. My caseload covers students from Pre-K to 12th grade at all six of our schools plus the alternative school. The self-contained classes are made up of students with a variety of disabilities such as autism, learning and intellectual disabilities, down syndrome, etc.

Due to their disabilities, it is hard to find resources that are both age appropriate and on their individual levels.

They are hard workers and try their best in school. These students are eager learners.

My Project

Learning new things can be hard and challenging. Imagine if you couldn't clearly hear your teachers or classmates? Sometimes our students come with extra batteries but often they do not. Even then, they often cannot tell us when their hearing aid is not working properly. Our schools need "hearing aid check kits" so each child with a hearing aid can have their devices checked every morning.

Imagine not being able to do your classwork simply because your device had a dead battery.

These items will help keep this from happening for our hearing-impaired students. We have students with hearing loss ranging from a mild loss to severe and profound. if their hearing technology stops working then they can miss 50% of instruction even with a mild hearing loss. Help our students hear so they can learn.
