About My Students

Lexia, Emma, Jake, and Zane are student council representatives from across the grade levels at our middle school. They are intrinsically driven and desire to be leaders of tomorrow. They discovered a need within our school and are trying to find innovative ways to meet the need.

Some of these students have been involved in student council longer than others but each have agreed that our student council needs a portable sound system. Student council is a big advocate for teachers and students within our school system. They practice leadership roles, put on student activities, and go above and beyond to support teachers and staff members throughout the year. Often our student council sponsors many student activities such as school dances and our 8th grade graduation. They also run campaigns yearly and spend time engaging in community service projects. Students are challenged to find sound equipment they can borrow from a family member or another organization within the school district. This can be time consuming and on occasion, if the need cannot be met, activities must be postponed or canceled. After our first big back to school activity, the students clearly identified the need for a dedicated student council sound system.

This sound system will be used for multiple leadership activities. Students often have trouble with public speaking. As teachers it is our goal to work on this academic and character building skill while developing our student's public speaking abilities for the future. It is found that career readiness and college courses all require or desire this talent. Along with public speaking, it is our goal to develop cohesiveness within our student council organization. Our group of middle school students will spend time putting together outreach missions within the school and the community. We allow them autonomy to lead the group in new ways that inspire others. By having the right tools, such as the sound system, we will have the ability to reach crowds and let our student's voices be heard. We will also have what we need to properly host student activities in which we raise money to fund our outreach missions and student council events.

In Their Own Words

By receiving the sound system that we are requesting, we will be able to plan and host student council events more easily. It will also open the door to new opportunities that we haven't been able to explore in the past. We would like a sound system for school dances, our 8th grade graduation, student council leadership events, pep-rallies, and community outreach events. We are also interested in using the system for school wide talent shows, etc. We are a team working together for a purpose.

It is our plan to seek help from our community and outside businesses. Our teachers are working with us to teach us about soliciting help using leadership skills. We also plan to use social media and good old fashioned fliers to spread the word about our project. We have heard that people locally and throughout the US and possibly abroad are interested in helping students. We hope to inspire people to donate to our project. We are leaders of tomorrow trying to make a difference.

This project is important to us because we have limited resources within our organization. We are a group of middle school students trying to make an impact on our school and community. We want to host student activities and work in our community. We desire to practice public speaking and raise money for service projects. Not having our own sound system makes scheduling events difficult and limits what activities we can host. Please help us obtain the resources we need.
