Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a middle school computer teacher. My school serves students throughout our city. The students are 80% minorities. 73% of our students will be considered first generation 4 year university students. Our students choose to attend our more rigorous school, than their neighborhood middle school. Many of our students have a primary language other than English, but they are all proficient in English.
My students are asked to record their voices for almost all of my assignments and many for their core classes. As the students become more proficient speakers and writers they become more frustrated with the background noise in their recordings. They are in need of a soundproof zone to record their voices and original music.
The solution is rather simple. I have a walk in area in the back of my classroom. This is a perfect area to set up a recording area with one of our laptops the new computer microphones and the cork padded walls to prevent unwanted sounds.
This area can easily fit 4 students at a time plan on painting the cork chroma key green so that we can record live video and impose a new background in the video. We already do a half way decent job of this, but the quality of the this solutions will be next to professional. The students will have a real audience and really will want to do their best work.
How exciting to provide our classroom with a recording studio! I have the skills to know how to make this be successful. The students just need access to these materials. The students will be able to clearly express their voice in writing, voice recordings, video recording and music recordings. This is a very exciting opportunity for you, me and the students.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
