My students need a printer to create a visually-rich environment to help them learn to read. They need an Apple TV and Bouncy Bands for chairs.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are physically active and inquisitive children. Most of my students qualify for free or reduced price lunch. Approximately a third or more are English Language Learners. Some of my students are learning their letters and sounds while others are mastering the first stages of reading. My students are also learning number sense and how to count. Our school celebrates the arts and personal expression. We also emphasize teaching our students how to cooperate and work in teams. The three personal standards (showing respect, solving your problems, and making good decisions) are reviewed daily in the class and school wide.
Knowing about how the brain works, especially at their young age, they need a lot of opportunities to move and access the information around them.
I want to provide my students with technological literacy as well as reading and writing literacy. Since many of my students barely know their letter-sounds, they will need a lot of visuals to help them decode the words in class and speed up the learning process.
My Project
I want my classroom to support multiple intelligences and the many ways students learn: visually, kinesthetically, auditorily, etc. Research states that young learners NEED opportunities to move in order to think and concentrate. Students have a tendency to lean back in their chairs to give their legs something to do. The bouncy bands will help those learners who want to wiggle while they write without the danger of falling backwards in their chair.
I also want my classroom to be print rich and give my early readers many opportunities to make connections that the words around them represent something in real life.
For this, I will need to be able to print and post images everywhere, on the fly. That is why a color printer is so essential. I want the classroom to be "living," meaning that new information can be posted anytime anywhere based on the interest of the students or the words they are learning. Having a printer in the classroom will allow us to do that.
The Apple TV would be a wonderful tool when paired with my iPad and projector. This will serve as another visual research database, since we will be able to look up facts quickly and I will be able to project them for the whole class to see. Or I can snap images of great student work and project it for other students to reference. I can also use the Apple TV to write on my tablet from any location in the room and project this on the wall while facing my students, so that my back doesn't have to be towards them. The possibilities are endless!
