Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
You may be wondering what makes my students so special. To begin with they are the most generous and kind students you will ever meet. They are always eager to lend a hand and contribute to the greater good. They have a "never give up" mindset. Despite obstacles and setbacks, they just keep on trying until they achieve their goal!
My students are 18-22 years old, come from diverse backgrounds, and have autism and intellectual disabilities.
They are amazing, thoughtful, and determined. I am inspired by them everyday and they motivate me to do my best.
Students with Autism have a difficult time finding and maintaining employment when after completing high school. Vocational and employabilty skills are taught in the classroom and the community. Vocational skills are taught through hands on projects both in and out of the classroom.
My Project
My students are currently running a recycling business in the school. The materials we use were all acquired through the generous support of Donors Choose in the Going Green with Broncocycling grant.
The students use the paper collected from the classroom teachers to create gifts that are presented to the teachers who participate.
At times they need access to a printer in order to complete the project they are working on. While there is a teacher printer in the classroom, I want my students to be able to access a printer when the job they are working on warrants the need for a printer.
