Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
A classroom without music is like a hole in a sock. Something is just missing. My newest addition to the end-of-year vision is to invigorate my students' interests in music and listening.
I may be biased, but my students are the greatest group of four-year-olds in existence.
Every student in my class qualifies for free lunch. Some students have experienced a homicide in their family. Most of my students are first-generation Americans, but they are still scholars. They are bilingual, curious, kind, and intelligent. Many of my students have already surpassed their year-end learning goals, and those who have not still excel in other ways. These students can tell you why school is important, and why they love it. I intend to instill a love of learning so deep that it will last beyond our year together.
My Project
My students need four headphone sets, a small piano keyboard, an iPod nano, and speakers. The piano keyboard will be used for many things including explicit piano instruction, student exploration, and teacher-directed transitions. Students are encouraged to make their own music, and this will be our first non-percussion instrument available for students!
The iPod and speakers will be used for the whole class to sing and dance during music and movement time. The headphones will be used for both a listening center and the computers, so students can listen to books on tape and music as well.
Your donations will really fill the largest hole in my classroom: music.
Since my students do not receive any opportunities for special or elective subjects like art and music, it is up to me to provide these opportunities for them. Your help is greatly appreciated.
