My students need colorful, engaging, learning materials to develop their proficiency in English. All week my students work hard. One period a week we want to play and learn! We need English Language Learner Games Library.

My Students
English learners in my classes are industrious, curious, and grateful for any and every opportunity to learn. They work hard all week at school and at home, to learn English and content-area skills and concepts. They also like to have fun! Why not learn English through educational games?
My fourth and fifth-grade students, as a group, speak twelve different languages, have varying degrees of proficiency in the native languages, and are all English learners.
They have varying degrees of proficiency in English, and are all required to learn a new language while simultaneously learning science, math, social studies, and ELA. It's a lot of hard work for everyone!
Our school is a Title I school with over 800 students. Over 35% of those students are English learners. At this time, we do not have sufficient access to technology in order to foster students' digital literacy, or to enhance their learning of content and language.
My Project
My students and I will use the English language learners game library and vocabulary cards to expand language proficiency while having fun. Once we add the game library to our small collection of classroom resources, students will enjoy one period per week of game-based language instruction, or maybe two. We will use the collection of vocabulary cards to build depth of knowledge of words, and in a variety of speaking and listening activities.
Many English learners, especially beginners, experience cognitive overload by the end of the school day.
By the end of the week, many of my students are completely exhausted having spent a tremendous amount of energy working to make sense of the flood of language washing over them throughout the week. Fun Friday with game-based language instruction will provide students an opportunity to relax and have fun while they continue to learn.
